Hotels & hospitality

Hotel and hospitality pest control

A hotel is the one commercial building that never closes and can least afford to be seen dealing with pests. Both of those point at the same answer, which is to do the work at three in the morning and leave no trace of it by breakfast.

Hospitality carries a risk almost no other sector does: the review. A rodent in a warehouse is an operational problem that gets fixed. A bed bug in a hotel room is a photograph, a one-star review with a date on it, and a paragraph that outlives the infestation by years. The treatment is rarely the expensive part.

That changes what a hotel is actually buying. It is buying discretion, timing, and the ability to say precisely which rooms are affected rather than taking a floor out of service on suspicion. Nightshift works nights as its standard shift rather than being called out, so a technician is in the building when the corridors are empty and gone before service, and out-of-hours attendance carries no premium because it is simply when we work.

We have been doing this for over 45 years, in buildings that include some of the best known hotels in the country. Almost none of them would want naming here, which is rather the point.

What hotels actually buy

Bed bugs, and knowing which rooms

The expensive mistake in a bed bug response is not treating too little, it is treating too much. Canine detection screens rooms far faster than visual inspection and reaches harbourage in seams, frame joints and wall voids that cannot be seen without dismantling furniture. The commercial value is usually in the rooms it CLEARS: a dog that rules out eleven of twelve rooms has just kept eleven of them selling. Indications are visually confirmed by a technician before anything is treated.

Heat treatment that kills every life stage

Where treatment is needed, heat is the definitive answer for bed bugs: it kills every life stage including eggs in a single chemical-free treatment, which matters in a room that has to be re-let rather than left standing. Nightshift carries out the servicing and calls on JG Pest Control for the heat treatment itself, our sister company within the Tyro UK group, the UK leader in it and the highest-rated pest control company on Trustpilot. You contract with us and deal with us throughout. We name them because using the right specialist is the point, not something to hide.

Overnight working as standard, not as a callout

Kitchens after service, public areas after the bar closes, back of house between shifts. Technicians are on shift through the night rather than woken at home, which is both why attendance is quick and why it is not surcharged. For a hotel the practical result is that most of what we do is never seen by a guest.

Kitchens, bars and food service

The hotel kitchen carries the same exposure as any restaurant, with the added complication that it cannot close without the hotel noticing. Programmes are built around the hygiene rating and the environmental health file rather than around the pest, with a written report the same day of every visit.

Discretion as a specification, not a promise

Unbranded arrival where it is wanted, work planned around occupancy and events, and reporting that goes to the person who asked for it rather than circulating. This is the part that is easy to claim and worth asking about specifically: what a contractor will actually do on arrival, and who will see them doing it.

The record, for when it is needed

Same-day written reports, trend data across visits, RAMS and COSHH on request. Hospitality is one of the sectors where the file gets read by somebody other than you: an environmental health officer, an insurer, a brand standards auditor, or a solicitor acting for a guest. It is built to be read.

Common questions

Do you cover hotels outside London?

Yes. The thirty-minute attendance target applies to London and London only, but coverage runs across the South East, East Anglia, the East of England, the Midlands, Manchester and the North West, and the West of England, with foot teams in Birmingham and Manchester. We would rather publish one response time we can hold to than a national number that quietly means something different in every region.

Do you provide bed bug heat treatment?

Yes. Nightshift carries out the servicing and calls on JG Pest Control for the heat treatment, our sister company within the Tyro UK group and the UK leader in it. You contract with Nightshift and deal with Nightshift throughout, and nobody passes you around the group. We name them because JG is the highest-rated pest control company on Trustpilot, which is worth knowing when a room is coming out of service.

How quickly can a treated room go back into service?

That depends on the treatment and we will tell you before starting rather than afterwards. Heat treatment is the fastest route back because it kills every life stage in a single application with no chemical residue, which is exactly why it suits a room that has to be re-let. What we will not do is give you a turnaround time before anyone has seen the room.

Can you inspect without the guests or staff knowing?

In most cases yes, and it is the normal way we work. Night attendance means the corridors are empty, canine searches run overnight and between changeovers, and arrival can be unbranded where that is wanted. Say so at survey and it will be built into how the visits are planned.

A guest has reported bed bugs. What should we do first?

Do not strip the room and do not treat it yourself, because both destroy the evidence needed to establish what is actually there and how far it has gone. Take the room out of service, leave it as it is, and get it inspected. Canine detection then tells you whether it is one room or a run of them, which is the question that decides everything else.

Will your reporting satisfy a brand standards audit?

It is written to be read by somebody other than us: same-day written reports, trend data across visits, and RAMS and COSHH on request. Nightshift is a BPCA member and CEPA certified. If your brand has a specific documentation format, bring it to survey and we will work to it.

Take one room out of service, not a floor

Surveys, quotations and advice are free and without obligation, one property or a whole group. If a guest has reported something, leave the room as it is and call us: the first job is establishing what is actually there and how far it has gone.

Arrange a survey

One contract, and a specialist behind every part of it

Nightshift carries out the servicing. Where a job needs a specialist, we call on one from within our own group rather than subcontracting to a stranger or telling you it is not something we do. On some disciplines that is one sister company; on bird work it is four. You contract with us throughout and deal with us throughout.

Routine servicing, contracts and out-of-hours work
The programme itself, worked at night as standard so premises are treated without closing. This is the part that does not move.

Nightshift

Bed bug heat treatment
The UK leader in bed bug heat treatment and the highest-rated pest control company on Trustpilot. Heat kills every life stage including eggs in one chemical-free treatment, which is what gets a room re-let rather than left standing. We call on them for it.

JG Pest Control

Canine bed bug detection
Our own scent-trained dogs, screening rooms far faster than visual inspection. Usually run before any treatment, because knowing which rooms are clear is worth more than knowing which are not.

Nightshift

Bird proofing, netting and falconry
The deepest bench in the group by some distance. Our own falconry and proofing teams rather than a subcontractor, and alongside them JG, Integrum Services and British Bird Control all run bird work, covering netting, spikes, proofing, guano and specialist cleaning, and solar panel pigeon proofing. Whatever the elevation, the species or the access problem, somebody here has done it before.

Nightshift, JG, Integrum and British Bird Control

Aviation and airports
Over 20 years servicing international airports, and Integrum Services in the group naming aviation and airports among its key industries. Airside work has constraints almost nothing else does, from escorting and passes to what may be deployed near a runway, and it is not a sector to learn on somebody's live estate.

Nightshift, with Integrum

Timber, woodworm and heritage buildings
Timber and woodworm treatment in house, and Vergo within the group for specialist and heritage work. Chemical-free parasitic wasp woodworm treatment is available under a licence held by Tyro UK and shared across the group.

Nightshift, with Vergo

Products, supply and proofing hardware
Both group companies, and where we buy ourselves. Useful when a site wants to hold its own proofing and monitoring stock alongside a contract.

PestFix and Enviroguard

National multi-site and public sector
Group capacity for national multi-site and public sector work, alongside Nightshift's own framework positions, ranked first on South East Consortium and second on ESPO.

Vergo

Residential and rapid response at scale
The group's residential and job-work specialist, which matters for operators with staff accommodation or residential units attached to a commercial estate.

JG Pest Control

These are sister companies within Tyro UK rather than independent recommendations, and we say so wherever we name them. The reason to mention it at all is practical: it is why we can say yes to the awkward part of a brief instead of leaving you to find a second contractor for it.
