The first UK pilot of Syngenta SecureChoice

A high-footfall hospitality venue on London's South Bank needed more than a fixed schedule of visits. Nightshift became the first pest control company in the UK to pilot Syngenta's digital rodent monitoring platform, replacing guesswork with continuous data.

5★

Food hygiene rating

The venue holds a 5-star rating, with the pest control element of the inspection specifically noted as a strength.

24/7

Continuous monitoring

Dual-sensing detection picks up motion and vibration across the site, including voids and service risers that are difficult to inspect out of hours.

1st

In the UK to pilot it

Nightshift was the first pest control company in the country to deploy Syngenta's SecureChoice platform on a live site.

The challenge

A rating decided in a single snapshot.

For a hospitality venue, pest control is not only about compliance. It is about the food hygiene rating customers see before they book a table, and the reputation that sits behind it.

Traditional pest management relies on scheduled visits and visual inspection, which means activity between visits goes undetected and a technician often cannot tell whether a treatment is genuinely working or merely appears to be. On a complex South Bank site, voids, service areas and out-of-hours access restrictions, any evidence of activity found during an Environmental Health inspection could put the rating, and the venue’s commercial reputation, directly at risk.

The venue needed continuous assurance and verifiable data, without relying on chemical treatment in food-facing areas.

The solution

Sensors instead of a calendar.

Nightshift partnered with Syngenta to become the first company in the UK to pilot SecureChoice, working directly with Syngenta’s Digital Solutions Lead for Professional Pest Management to design and implement the deployment.

SecureChoice uses dual-sensing detection, motion and vibration, fitted to bait stations and bespoke monitoring points across the site, including hard-to-access voids and service risers. Rather than working to a fixed inspection schedule, the system monitors around the clock and alerts the team the moment there is genuine activity.

  • Continuous, real-time monitoring across the whole site, including areas costly to inspect manually out of hours
  • Targeted response: technicians deployed on detected activity, not a generic calendar
  • Non-toxic monitoring as standard, through sensors rather than chemical bait exposure in food and guest-facing areas
  • Audit-ready reporting, with heat-mapped activity data for Environmental Health inspections

The results

What changed on site.

Working from real-time data rather than fixed-interval inspection changed how the site was managed.

  • Fewer reactive, emergency call-outs, because activity was identified and resolved before it escalated
  • Technician time directed by real activity data rather than a fixed calendar
  • Reduced reliance on chemical rodenticide in guest-facing and food-facing areas
  • A full audit trail of monitoring data available on demand for Environmental Health inspections
  • Heat-mapped activity data and automatic reporting for the venue's management team

Food hygiene ratings are decided in a single inspection snapshot. The conditions that earn a five-star result are built over months of consistent, verifiable control.
